The royal family gathers in Balmoral amid concerns for Queen's health

The royal family is traveling to Scotland’s Balmoral Castle due to “concerns” from the medical team regarding Queen Elizabeth’s health.

A statement released by Buckingham Palace on Thursday morning read: “Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty‘s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”

Prince Charles, the Queen’s heir, has made the trip to Balmoral with his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to be by her side. On Wednesday, Prince Charles was attending events in Scotland.

Also traveling to Balmoral is Prince William, who is second in line for the throne.

Queen Elizabeth was last seen in photos when she appointed Liz Truss as the U.K.’s new prime minister

Prince Harry, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth, and his wife, Meghan Markle, were scheduled to attend WellChild Awards in London on Thursday. They are also going to Scotland to visit the Queen, though. This week, they took a trip from their home in California to Europe to meet with a number of their long-standing charity organizations.

The other three children of Queen Elizabeth are also traveling to Balmoral. The only daughter of the Queen, Princess Anne, has already arrived in Scotland. Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, along with his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, are also going to see their mother.

Queen Elizabeth was last seen in photos on Tuesday when she appointed Conservative Party leader Liz Truss as the U.K.’s new prime minister from Balmoral.

The news comes after the Queen said on Wednesday that she would skip the upcoming Privy Council meeting so that she could rest.

“After a full day yesterday, Her Majesty has this afternoon accepted doctors’ advice to rest,” the palace said in a statement. “This means that the Privy Council meeting that had been due to take place this evening will be rearranged.”
