Miah Cerrillo smeared her dead classmate’s blood over her body and played dead to come out alive during the mass shooting on Wednesday. Here is more on the story.
11-year-old girl survives Texas school shooting
Miah Cerrillo, an 11-year-old girl at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas recounted how she pretended dead to come out alive during Wednesday’s mass shooting. She laid on top of her then injured (now dead) classmate to escape the gunman. Additionally, she also smeared the girl’s blood all over her body.
“My sister-in-law said that she saw her friend full of blood and she got (some) blood and put it on herself,” stated Blanca Rivera, her aunt. She added that her niece went into a ‘survival mode’.
While playing dead, Miah successfully managed to grab her dead teacher’s phone to call 911.
Miguel Cerrillo, the father of the girl, told the media that when he reached the school, he saw a police officer carrying his bloodied daughter out of the building. She was then put on the school bus.
Her parents told the local news that their daughter was crying and also suffered a panic attack after reaching home. She also asked her father to arm himself because she was scared that the gunman is coming after her.
Miah was also injured as multiple bullet fragments remained lodged in her back. She is receiving treatment for those injuries.
Her hair was singed in bullet fire and there were lacerations on her body. She was treated at a local hospital and released.
More on the grim story
Miah was one of the lucky students who came out alive from one of the major mass shootings in American history.
The gunman Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old, went on a shooting spree with an assault rifle and a handgun after killing his grandmother.
