According to a Taliban official, the group’s main purpose is to ‘serve Islam.’ According to the Taliban, their Ministry of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice is crucial to serve Islam and uphold its beliefs. During the Taliban’s previous reign, the moral police flogged, amputated, stoned, and even executed violators in public.

Mohammad Yusuf, responsible for Afghanistan’s central zone reported to the US daily that their regime will punish violators. The violators’ punishment will be according to the Islamic rules. Yusuf added that a murderer who intentionally committed the crime will face death. However, “if not intentional, then there might be another punishment like paying a certain amount of money.”

A Taliban official stated that the hands of thieves be cut off. Additionally, he added that those involved in illegal intercourse will get stoned in public. During the previous rule, stoning was generally just applicable for women. However, Yusuf claimed that both men and women involved in ‘illegal intercourse’ will get the same draconian treatment.

He also added that four witnesses are vital for conviction. “If there is a small difference in the story, there will be no punishment. But if all of them are saying the same thing. The same way, and at the same time, there will be punishment. The Supreme Court will overlook all these issues. Punishment follows if they are guilty,” clarified Yusuf.
