Manhunt Leads to Capture
A suspect in the murder of former Rolls-Royce chief Ian Cameron has been arrested in Paris following a six-day manhunt. The 22-year-old Serbian man was apprehended 500 miles from the crime scene by French special forces, who raided an apartment in the northern part of the French capital.
Details of the arrest
The suspect, who was found alone in the apartment, is set to appear before an investigating judge in Paris on July 19. Police tracked the suspect from Germany to Switzerland and then to Paris. CCTV footage had previously captured the suspect, described as 180-190cm tall, wearing light trousers, a dark blue hoodie, a red rucksack, and neon green gloves.
Ian Cameron, 74, was stabbed to death at his £3 million home in Herrsching am Ammersee, Bavaria, on July 12. Cameron, a British national and former Rolls-Royce executive, kept a collection of high-value vintage cars at his property. Sources suggest the murder may be linked to these vehicles. The power cable for surveillance cameras over the garages was found cut, indicating a premeditated break-in.
A public tip-off, after a tall, blonde man was seen in a local supermarket, proved crucial in identifying the suspect. Fürstenfeldbruck police chief Manfred Frei praised the community’s role, stating, “The valuable information provided after the public manhunt meant that we were able to quickly identify the suspect. This was a cornerstone for the man’s rapid arrest abroad.”
Cameron was reportedly knocked to the ground and stabbed after answering his door. His wife, a former leading designer at BMW, ran to a neighbor’s house to call the police. Cameron’s body was discovered in the entrance area of his home. The suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, traveled from Munich to Zurich before arriving in Paris.
Police statement and further actions
A Bavarian police spokesman confirmed the suspect’s capture: “Ultimately, his whereabouts were located in an apartment northeast of Paris, where the man was arrested by French special forces on July 18. The suspect was alone in the apartment at the time and offered no resistance. He will be brought before a French investigating judge on Friday.”
Ian Cameron’s Legacy
Cameron worked for Rolls-Royce from 1999 to 2013, contributing to the design of cars such as the 3 Series, Z8, Phantom, and Ghost. After retiring, he served as a brand ambassador for Rolls-Royce and later launched his own design consultancy.
The arrest marks a significant development in the case, highlighting the effectiveness of international cooperation and community involvement in solving serious crimes.
