Suspect in California mass shooting kills himself

The gunman who was responsible for shooting ten people at a Los Angeles-area ballroom dancing club was discovered dead in a van on Sunday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He fled in the same van after attempting a second shooting.

Huu Can Tran, 72, was recognized as the man by Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna. There are no other people on the loose. The Sheriff also stated that the reason for the shooting was unknown.

“We want to know how something this terrible can happen,” Luna told reporters.

The alleged weapon used in the shooting, a magazine-fed semi-automatic assault handgun, was also discovered in the van.

“I still have questions in my mind, which is: What was the motive for this shooter? Did he have a mental illness? Was he a domestic violence abuser? How did he gets these guns and was it through legal means or not?” Congresswoman Judy Chu said.

According to the Sheriff, Tran shot himself on Sunday morning as officers approached a white van he was driving near Torrance, some 20 miles from the incident at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park.

According to Luna, five of the ten victims were male and five were female. Their identities have not been revealed. Ten more people were hurt, with seven of them still hospitalized. According to authorities, one of them is in critical condition.

Luna has earlier released images of an Asian guy suspected of being the culprit

He also confirmed that Tran attempted a similar shot at a dance establishment in Alhambra about 20 minutes after the Saturday night shooting in Monterey Park. Police trailed a wanted van in the hours that followed, which was later reported in Torrance, many miles (kilometers) south.

According to witnesses at the second venue, Tran strolled in with a gun that attendees were able to grasp. No one was shot, and Tran fled, according to Luna.
