The Secret Service is protecting Hunter Biden, President Biden’s son in a Malibu mansion. Here’s everything you need to know.
Secret Service protects Hunter Biden
President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden is currently living in a four-bedroom mansion in Malibu, California. The nearest property the Secret Service could rent out costs $30,000 for a month. The Secret Service’s mansion is a six-bedroom “castle-like tower to the master retreat with wet bar”.
According to a property listing features “gorgeous ocean views” and “resort-style living at its finest”.
Apart from six bedrooms, six baths, a gym, a tasting room, and a guesthouse, the property features a built-in barbecue space, pool, and a spa.
The house also has a spiral staircase that leads to a “castle-like tower … the master retreat with a wet bar”, thereby offering “a perfect retreat for discerning clientele”.
“It is the cost of doing business for the Secret Service. Typically, wherever a protectee sets up their residence. The Secret Service is forced to find someplace to rent nearby at market value,” stated Don Mihalek. Mihalek is a former Secret Service agent.
“The Service has had to do this in past administrations. And unfortunately, the housing market right now has driven the prices,” added Mihalek. The mansion is also close to Hunter Biden’s rented mansion. However, Biden is reportedly paying around $20,000 every month for it. “Due to the need to maintain operational security, the US Secret Service does not comment on the means, methods, or resources used to conduct our protective operations,” stated the agency.
The cost of protecting the first families
In the recent past, the cost of protecting the first families has been raising eyebrows. Moreover, as per a report by the Washington Post, “In the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency, the Secret Service requested $60 million of additional funding to protect Trump and his family. With about $27 million of that going to protecting them at their private residency at the Trump Tower in New York City”. Additionally, the report reveals that the Secret Service paid over $1.2 million at various Trump properties. The estimates were during Trump’s time at the Oval office.
“Hunter Biden should recognize the exorbitant cost of his own protection in the exclusive Malibu neighborhood, and cooperate with the Secret Service to bring down the expenses,” stated Craig Holman. Holman is a part of Public Citizen, a progressive good-government group. Additionally, “Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner should have opened up their house to the Secret Service, just as Hunter Biden should do at his Malibu residence,” he added.
