Kremlin says Russia is not using Elon Musk’s Starlink. Know why

Starlink

The Kremlin stated that Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet technology was not approved for usage in Russia. The internet system was not officially delivered to Russia, thus it could not be used, it stated after Ukraine, who had been using Starlink for military communications during the war, claimed that Russia was using it in an area of Ukraine that Moscow now controls. According to Reuters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, “This is not a certified system with us; thus, it cannot and is not officially given here. As a result, it cannot be utilized in any official capacity.

“That is why here, perhaps, we should not intrude into the discussion between the Kyiv regime and the entrepreneur Musk”, he said. The Ukrainian defence ministry’s Main Directorate of Intelligence stated that Starlink terminals were utilized by forces such as Russia’s 83rd Air Assault Brigade. These forces are battling near the settlements of Klishchiivka and Andriivka in eastern Donetsk. In a post on X (previously Twitter), Elon Musk stated, “To the best of our knowledge, no Starlinks have been sold directly or indirectly to Russia.” Several fake news reports suggest that SpaceX is selling Starlink terminals to Russia. This is false.

During the early months of Russia’s invasion, Kyiv requested that Elon Musk activate the Starlink satellite service in Ukraine. The program became an important aspect of the war since it enabled internet access in conflict areas and beyond. Elon Musk previously stated that he had halted the use of Starlink during a Ukrainian raid on a Russian naval station on the Crimean peninsula. His remarks sparked outrage in Kyiv, prompting a US Senate inquiry.
