Russian President Vladimir Putin recently enacted the first compulsory mobilization of Russian citizens since World War II as the Ukraine war enters its seventh month.
In his televised address announcing this, Putin said that “only citizens who are currently in the reserve and, above all, those who served in the armed forces, have certain military specialties and relevant experience will be subject to conscription”.
Hundreds of people are attempting to leave Russia in an effort to avoid joining the war
But now there have been numerous odd conscription orders exposed.
In one instance, a paraplegic Russian man confined to a wheelchair received orders to join the army’s invasion of Ukraine. Oleg Vasiliev, a man with spinal muscular atrophy who can hardly move, has been told to go to his neighborhood draft office.
Another person who was summoned was Dmitry Ignatov, who lost a leg after an S-300 rocket launcher struck him while he was serving in Severodvinsk. Dmitry is a para-athlete and TV presenter who promotes disability awareness in Russia. He is a celebrity in his own right.
“I went to the military enlistment office in the morning, they checked my documents and released me. No one is calling me, just checking documents and that’s it,” he said.
Hundreds of people are attempting to leave Russia in an effort to avoid joining the conflict, and many are paying thousands of dollars for private flight seats out of the country.
Russian conscripts, according to Mirror UK, have begun to demonstrate “over being treated like ‘cattle,'” with many soldiers complaining that they are not receiving any training even as they make their way to the front lines.
