Russia jailing, beating its own soldiers who refuse to fight in Ukraine: Report

Ukraine

According to a report, Russia is imprisoning and even torturing its own soldiers who refuse to fight in Ukraine. BBC said that the Russian servicemen and their families also spoke of Moscow’s lack of preparation. According to the article, soldiers are being told to march forward with little knowledge of their goals.

According to the account, one of the two Russian soldiers “refused to lead his men to certain death.” When the invasion of Ukraine started, a soldier told the BBC that he chose not to fight because frontline troops were receiving little support. He and other soldiers were imprisoned for their protest.

“They beat him and then they took him outside as if they were going to shoot him. They made him lie on the ground and told him to count to ten. He refused. So, Russians beat him over the head several times with a pistol. He told me his face was covered in blood,” a soldier told BBC.

Another claimed that because of his refusal to lead his soldiers to their deaths, he and four other army leaders were imprisoned in a building’s basement. The Russian army allegedly informed his mother that the targeted building had been shelled and that everyone inside was now “missing in action.”

This comes as the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, pleaded with the G-7 leaders to endorse his proposal to hold a special Global Peace Summit in the winter to bring peace to his nation.

Volodymyr Zelensky informed the G7 leaders, “I propose to convene a special summit – the Global Peace Formula Summit – to decide how and when we can implement the points of the Ukrainian peace formula.
