Who is Lt Col Roman Malyk?
Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s mobilization efforts in Ukraine faced a major setback on Sunday with the death of Lt Col Roman Malyk. The 49-year-old was found dead under suspicious circumstances. According to reports, the Russian police have begun investigating the officer’s death. However, they have not ruled out suicide as a possible cause. However, his family and friends are rejecting the angle. They describe him as a war veteran who is a “strong and courageous man”. They added that he was “not broken by the weight of severe military events and huge losses (in Chechnya)”.
Additionally, the death of Nikolay Petrunin, a Russian oil entrepreneur also due to a heart attack caused a setback in Russia’s plans. Petrunin was serving as the deputy head of the parliament’s influential energy committee. His activities also included building gas pipelines. Additionally, he had ties with Rosneft and Gazprom. Both companies are supplying energy to the West.
