Former Treasury chief Rishi Sunak is set to become Britain’s next prime minister after Penny Mordaunt pulled out of the leadership race on Monday. His rival Boris Johnson had quit the race on Sunday evening citing incapability to unite the Conservative party.

Rishi Sunak was born in UK’s Southhampton area to an Indian family and is the son of a pharmacist mother and a National Health Service (NHS) general practitioner father.
Sunak, a graduate of Stanford and Oxford Universities, is married to Akshata Murthy, the daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy. The couple who tied the knot in 2009 has two daughters, Anoushka and Krishna.
In 2015, Sunak was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) in Richmond, Yorkshire. He took oath as MP from Yorkshire, on the Bhagavad Gita in the Parliament. He was the first UK parliamentarian to do so.
