Republic of Slowjamastan: DJ from San Diego establishes new country after buying 11-acre land

The Republic of Slowjamastan has over 500 registered citizens

Randy “R Dub!” Williams, a late-night “slow jams” DJ from San Diego, has formed a country called “Slowjamastan” and proclaimed himself as its Sultan. According to CNN, Williams, a broadcaster by day, has dedicated his life to traveling to every nation on the planet. He made the decision to purchase an 11.07-acre piece of barren, arid property in the California desert to establish a new “country” named after his radio program since there was only one UN-recognized country remaining to visit.

Williams, the newly constituted country’s leader, refers to it as “the United Territories of the Sovereign Nation of the People’s Republic of Slowjamastan.” Despite the fact that the country’s whole border is within US territory according to its official websites, Slowjamastan’s sultan formally declared the country’s independence from the US at 12:26 PM on December 1, 2021.

According to the latest publication, the Republic of Slowjamastan has over 500 registered citizens, with another 4,500 alleged to be provisionally approved or waiting in line for citizenship.

One of the bizarre restrictions that exist in this country forbids the wearing of Crocs. This country’s zealous “Porder Batrol” has confiscated 427 pairs of Crocs, stopped 79 vehicles with their feet on the dashboard, and built 14 feet of the new border fence.

Even while the Sultan of Slowjamastan has enacted a number of peculiar laws—forbidding the wearing of Crocs, for example—the Republic still possesses all the hallmarks of a young nation-state two years later. It prints its own money (“the duble”), issues its own passports, displays its own flag, and plays its national song during official events.

Over 500 people have been registered as citizens of the Republic of Slowjamastan, and 4,500 more people reportedly have provisional approval for citizenship or are in the queue to apply. Williams is inviting tourists to visit the Republic of Slowjamastan as he aims to establish the leading “micronation” in the globe now that he is close to achieving his lifelong ambition of traveling to every country in the world.

His next big idea is to raise the money necessary to construct “a lazy river, an armadillo farm, an all-you-can-eat Mongolian BBQ establishment, and, of course, a giant statue/monument of The Great Leader (me).”

We also host a handful of activities throughout the year,” Williams adds,” including opportunities to have your Slowjamastani passport stamped, join in on the commemoration of new states, and even meet the sultan.”
