Queen’s death: Time and cause revealed

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning monarch of the UK died peacefully on September 8, 2022. The 96-year-old breathed her last at her home in Balmoral Castle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. On Thursday, the National Records of Scotland revealed her death certificate to the public. The document reveals she died of old age at 15:10 BST. Her death was recorded on September 16 by Scotland’s Registrar general.

Princess Anne, Elizabeth II’s daughter signed her death certificate as she was with the Queen during her last moments.

“I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life,” stated Princess Anne. Others present at the Balmoral Castle during her last moments were King Charles III and his wife Camilla. Last year, Prince Phillip died at the age of 99 due to old age.

On September 8, following concerns from doctors about the Queen’s health, Buckingham Palace revealed the news of her death via an official statement. “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” it read. Her coffin traveled to Edinburg before going to London. The coffin was kept for a lying-in-state at the Westminster castle. Later, her state funeral was held on September 19 at London’s Westminister Abbey.

During her final moment, the Queen was experiencing sporadic mobility issues. Hence, she was regularly sighted with a walking stick. She began using the cane after ‘preliminary investigations’ in October 2021. It was also her first overnight hospital admission in over eight years. Following doctors’ orders to perform light duties, she missed several major events such as the festival of remembrance and the COP26 climate summit. Before her death, she performed a major state duty by asking Truss to become her 15th PM.
