The Pulitzer Prize winners for 2022 were announced on Monday. The Pulitzer Prize is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine, online journalism, and literature within the United States. The award categories include American internet journalism, literature, newspapers, poetry, and photography. This year, the Pulitzer Committee awarded a special commendation to Ukrainian journalists, for their bravery and truthful reporting on the war.
Prize administrator Marjorie Miller said, “The Pulitzer Prize board is pleased to award a special citation to the journalists of Ukraine for their courage, endurance, and commitment to truthful reporting during Vladimir Putin’s ruthless invasion of their country and his propaganda war in Russia. Despite bombardment abductions, occupation, and even deaths in their ranks, they have persisted in their effort to provide an accurate picture of a terrible reality, doing honor to Ukraine and to journalists around the world.”
Reuters photographers Adnan Abidi, Sanna Irshad Mattoo, and Amit Dave won the prestigious honor for their photographs depicting the COVID-19 situation in India. Late Reuters photographer Danish Siddiqui, who lost his life while reporting an encounter between Afghan special forces and Taliban terrorists, was also honored with the award. The New York Times took home the majority of the news awards. Here’s the complete list of winners.
