The sound of rapid-fire gunshots sent people fleeing in horror on the streets of Sacramento, California’s capital city. The city was full of the typical crowds as bars and nightclubs closed for the night. 6 people died, and 12 were hurt in the latest mass shooting in California, United States.
Sacramento police said they were searching for at least two people who opened fire around 2 a.m. The Golden One Arena accommodates concerts and the NBA’s Sacramento Kings. It was built on the fringes of the city’s central entertainment zone on Sunday. The team’s home game against the Golden State Warriors went on as planned Sunday night, with a moment of silence held in honor of the deaths.
Revealing the information from the investigation, Police Chief Kathy Lester said, “The scale of violence that just happened in our city is unprecedented during my 27 years here,” Lester told reporters during a news conference at police headquarters. “We are shocked and heartbroken by this tragedy. But we are also resolved as an agency to find those responsible and to secure justice for the victims and the families.”

The shooting occurred shortly after a brawl broke out on a street dotted with fancy hotels, nightclubs, and bars. The police said they had no idea if the brawl was related to the shooting. Witness video released on social media showed at least 45 seconds of rapid gunfire. The gunfire woke up people at the Citizen Hotel.
According to the Sacramento Fire Department, the dead included three men and three women. Authorities were still working to notify family members. They had publicly identified only one victim as of late Sunday, 38-year-old Sergio Harris, without providing a cause of death. Of the 12 wounded, at least four had critical injuries.

This mass shooting is also the second mass shooting in five weeks in Sacramento. In a statement released on Sunday, President Joe Biden urged action on gun crime.
