Police in the city of Fostoria, Ohio, has warned parents to check their children’s Halloween chocolates after reports that some treats have needles in them. The alert was issued when an unidentified child discovered a needle inside a KitKat bar after returning from trick-or-treating on Saturday night. Soon later, authorities received a second report of sewing needles in Sour Patch Kids’ bags.
Officials say the two children have no relation to each other. They said no one is suffering from injury. Officials are yet to identify the street where these candies were in distribution. Police Chief Keith Loreno informs CNN, “While we only know of the involvement of two pieces of candy. We take it seriously and are in shock. Anyone will be so mad at children in our community. They want them to be hurt.”
Images of Halloween chocolates with needles are circulating on social media. “Why would someone do this? We’ve all heard about these types of things. But it is really upsetting to actually do this to someone in our community.” A post by Fostoria police updates via Facebook after the initial reports were out. The post is down.
A local hospital, ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital, offered X-ray candies to make sure there are no metal pieces inside. “Both Fostoria Police and ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital feel it is best to take every appropriate action. In order to keep our children safe. Also to help parents make an informed decision with any candy their children may receive” the police informed.
