Painting in Britain allegedly cursed: Owners report supernatural disturbances, keeps getting resold every few days

A seemingly unassuming painting in Britain has captured widespread attention, not for its artistic merit but for its alleged supernatural effects on its owners. Multiple buyers have reported eerie experiences, leading to a pattern of rapid resales and growing intrigue around the mysterious artwork.

The “Cursed” painting of Hastings

According to a report by The Daily Star, the painting, depicting a young girl, is currently housed at a charity shop in Hastings, East Sussex. Accompanying the artwork is a note indicating that it has been sold twice and returned each time due to unsettling experiences.

Joi Elliot Brown, the painting’s first documented buyer, purchased it for £25. Shortly afterward, Brown began feeling an inexplicable sense of being followed by a dark shadow. Overwhelmed by the experience, she decided to resell the piece on eBay.

Unexplained events at a London attraction

The painting’s next owner, James Kislingbury, acquired it in September 2023 for £1,800. Kislingbury, who works at the London Bridge Experience—a popular tourist attraction—placed the artwork in the reception area.

Since its arrival, Kislingbury has reported a series of strange occurrences, including an eerie sense of an uncanny presence and mysterious noises. “There’s something about the painting that makes the atmosphere feel heavier,” he shared. Staff members at the attraction have also described witnessing shadowy figures resembling children playing near the artwork.

A history shrouded in mystery

The origins of the painting remain unknown. It is believed to have been donated to the charity shop by an elderly individual, but no additional details about its provenance have surfaced. Before arriving in London, the painting reportedly passed through the hands of at least three owners, each reporting an unsettling series of events.

The growing notoriety of the painting highlights a fascinating intersection between art and the supernatural. While some dismiss the reports as psychological effects or coincidence, others view the painting as a genuinely cursed object. For now, the mysterious artwork continues to stir debate and fascination, reminding us of the powerful, and sometimes unsettling, impact art can have on its viewers.
