The South Korean military revealed North Korea launched three ballistic missiles which landed in the East Sea. However, it did not elaborate on the types of missiles. The new report on launches comes as military tensions between the two nations are rising. “North Korea fires an unidentified ballistic missile into (the) East Sea,” stated the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea. The East Sea is also known as the Sea of Japan.
North Korea tested over 70 cruise and ballistic missiles in 2022. The numbers are seen by experts as a warning to South Korea and the United States against their deals. South Korea has been on watch over the possibility of intrusions since the North fired drones.

The drones fired by North Korea flew close to Seoul. South Korea’s military deployed attack helicopters and fighter jets against drones. However, even after a five-hour-long operation, it failed in bringing them down. The situation caused an embarrassment to the Defense minister of South Korea who later offered a public apology.
President Yoon Suk-yeol called the incident “intolerable” and assured fighting back against North Korea’s actions. Additionally, he added that Pyongyang will be made to realize “provocations are always met with harsh consequences”. The provocation comes as Pyongyang is holding a major party meeting. Kim Jong-Un and other senior officials of the party will be setting out their goals and policies for 2023 in several key areas. Diplomacy, economy, and security are assumed to be the main ones.
