Several people were injured after a subway shooting early in NYC during the morning rush. Here’s more on the incident.

NYC subway shooting

According to officials, 11 people were injured following a shooting accident in Sunset Park. The 8:30 am morning rush in New York’s Brooklyn area was witness to a gruesome scene. As per witnesses, a gunman wearing a gas mask and orange construction-style vest was seen. A witness described the gunman as a “5-foot-5 black man, around 170 pounds”. She also added that he shot several rounds and she ‘lost count’.

The gunman is believed to have thrown a snare bomb shortly before 8:30 am into the train at the 25th Street Station. He soon started shooting after the doors closed. “At 8h 27 police responded to a 911 call of a person shot in the subway” stated an NYPD spokesperson. Moreover, according to social media, there was a fire. However, other reports are claiming the presence of undetonated devices at the site. Photos and videos emerging on social media show people suffering in the blood stained platform of 36th street, waiting for medical care.

More on the hunt for the gunman

A joint team consisting of experts from the FBI and the New York Police Department (NYPD), rushed to the site and helped in determining if it was a terrorist attack. Additionally, a bomb squad was surveying the area. The accused is still on the run. “Due to an investigation, avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn. Expect emergency vehicles and delays in the surrounding area,” stated the NYPD advisory. Additionally, they added that there are “no active explosive devices” in the area.

“President Joe Biden has been briefed on the latest developments regarding the New York City subway shooting,” stated Jen Psaki. Psaki is the Press Secretary for the White House. Senior White House officials are also in touch with New York Mayor and the Police Commissioner.
