A portal connecting Dublin in Ireland, to New York, which was abruptly closed due to a guest’s inappropriate behavior, has reopened. According to the New York Post, the live stream portal, which allows people thousands of kilometers apart to see and speak to each other in real-time, has been reopened with new measures and reduced hours. Organizers turned the portal back on at 9 am on Sunday, nearly five days after it was shut down, the outlet further reported.
The screens will now blur if a visitor steps on the portal and obstructs the camera
When first launched earlier this month, it operated 24/7, but it will now be live only from 6 am to 4 pm. Guardrails have been added around the portal to prevent a repeat of previous offensive incidents. Additionally, the screens will now blur if a visitor steps on them and obstructs the camera, which organizers described as a “proximity-based solution,” the outlet further stated.
On the New York side, policemen, fencing, and signage will be deployed, while the Dublin side will feature physical design elements to manage crowds.
“The team will continue making updates as needed to ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy the portal,” the organizers said in a statement.
The portal allows people to see but not hear, each other on both sides of the Atlantic. It was closed after visitors on the Irish side displayed images of the 9/11 attacks and swastikas. In New York, an OnlyFans creator exposed her breasts on the livestream.
The portal is positioned on the Dublin side on O’Connell Street, and in New York, it is located on the Flatiron South Public Plaza between Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and 23rd Street. Lithuanian artist Benediktas Gylys is the creator of the artwork.
