A Nebraska couple got the shock of their lives when they found out that they were expecting a baby, and just 48 hours later gave birth to their child.
First-year teacher Peyton Stover, 23, of Omaha, went to the doctor after experiencing symptoms like fatigue that she thought were brought on by work stress. She told KETV, “I just thought it was normal to be tired all the time.” But when she began to experience physical changes, like leg swelling, her doctor informed her that she was expecting a child.
“They ran the test again,” Stover said. “It’s definitely positive. We’re going to do an ultrasound,” she recalled. “She looked right at the screen and said, ‘You’re definitely pregnant.'”
Doctors discovered that Stover had preeclampsia
Further, the 23-year-old said that the news of her baby also came with other medical concerns. Stover said that her kidneys and liver stopped functioning properly, following which the doctors sprung into action. “They said she needs to be admitted and then she had the baby that night,” her boyfriend, Tavis Koesters, told KETV, as per New York Post.
Doctors discovered that Stover had preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a pregnancy condition that can lead to serious complications. It is characterized by high blood pressure and symptoms of organ system damage.
In order to save the mother and child, the medical professionals performed an urgent C-section. Ms. Stover described the situation as “very scary.” She gave birth to a boy named Kash who was born 10 weeks early and weighed only 4 pounds.
The couple said that they wanted kids at some point. So they are overjoyed that the time has come earlier than expected.
