A NASA engineer has been charged with six counts of sexual assault, according to Texas officials. They are currently looking for more possible survivors. Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said that 37-year-old Eric Sim is “believed to be a serial rapist,” and she is encouraging other possible survivors to come forward.
“The nature of these offenses is so personal and so predatory that we felt it was important we tell the public,” Ogg said.
NASA engineer Eric Sim was arrested at the Johnson Space Center in February
Eric Sim of Houston was arrested at the Johnson Space Center in February and charged in two assault cases dating back to 2021, according to KHOU.
Since his arrest, four additional women have accused Sim, a nine-year veteran at NASA, of sexual assaults between 2019 and 2022, according to officials and court records.
The additional charges were filed on March 27, according to court documents.
Sim used his professional credentials to gain the trust of his victims
Officials suspect Sim used his professional credentials to gain the trust of his victims, whom he contacted through a variety of dating apps and websites.
“His predatory behavior with the victims in these cases, along with his NASA credentials frequently mentioned to gain credibility, and his international travel are all clauses that could indicate further victims are out there,” said Ogg.
Officials said during a press conference on Wednesday that there could be more survivors not only in the Houston region but across the country and worldwide, as Sim traveled frequently to nations such as Japan and Canada.
Sim met his victims on several dating apps and websites.
HPD encourages any other potential victims or anybody who has had contact with Sim to come forward and contact 713-308-1176.
