Missing US ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson found dead in Nepal

Hilaree Nelson, a top US ski mountaineer, was found dead in the Himalayas on Wednesday, two days after she went missing from the slopes of Nepal’s Manaslu peak.

Nelson’s travel companion Jim Morrison served as the leader of the search team

Her partner Jim Morrison, who accompanied her on the trip, led the search party. “The search team that left this morning on a helicopter spotted her body.” “They are bringing her back,” Jiban Ghimire of Shangri-La Nepal Trek, which organized the expedition, told Reuters.

Nelson had previously lost her footing while skiing, and despite numerous attempts, she was nowhere to be found on Tuesday. Nelson’s sponsor, The North Face, confirmed her disappearance. “We are in touch with Hilaree’s family and supporting search and rescue efforts in every way we can,” the company said in an Instagram post.

Avalanches and terrible weather also seriously hindered the rescue efforts

Avalanches and bad weather also hampered rescue efforts significantly.

According to Nepal’s tourism department, helicopters were unable to operate on Monday, and the camps were impacted by heavy rain. When the weather improved on Tuesday, the search parties were finally able to begin climbing the 8,163-metre (26,781-foot) mountain in search of Nelson.

Nelson was dubbed “the most prolific ski mountaineer of her generation” after becoming the first person to climb Mount Everest and its neighboring Lhotse within 24 hours.
