Madison Marsh, a 22-year-old Air Force officer from the United States, was elected Miss America 2024 on Sunday (Monday, January 15 IST). Madison, a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force and master’s student in the public policy department at Harvard Kennedy School, won the beauty pageant in Orlando, Florida. Miss Colorado 2023 is the first active-duty Air Force officer to win the national title. Meanwhile, Ellie Breaux of Texas is the pageant’s first runner-up.

Madison Marsh won the title of Miss America after defeating 51 competitors who represented 50 US states as well as the District of Columbia. Ellie Breaux placed first, followed by Cydney Bridges of Indiana in second place, Mallory Hudson of Kentucky in third place, and Caroline Parente of Rhode Island in fourth place, while Madison emerged victorious as Miss America. Madison was crowned at the event by Wisconsin’s Grace Stanke, the 2023 Miss America winner.
Madison was reportedly asked about her objectives as Miss America during the questionnaire stage. Miss America answered by emphasizing her military experience as an example of her devotion to learning and leading “with passion.” During the talk, she also discussed her mother, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2018. Madison was inspired by her death to establish the Whitney Marsh Foundation, which raises funds for cancer research.
Madison, meantime, was crowned Miss Colorado last year. She graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 2023. The Miss America winner is attending Harvard Kennedy School for a master’s degree in public policy. Following her victory, the US Air Force tweeted, “Congratulations to our very own #Airman, 2nd Lt Madison Marsh, aka Miss Colorado—who was just crowned @MissAmerica 2024! Marsh is the first active-duty servicemember to ever win the title.”
