Ida marks 91st by skydiving
While most 90-year-olds celebrate their birthday in a cozy house with their loved ones and food, this 91-year-old woman had a very different idea. A Minnesota nonagenarian woman marked her 91st birthday by skydiving. Ida Shannon went skydiving last Sunday to celebrate her upcoming 91st birthday. “Life would be pretty dull if you didn’t embrace adventures. I like taking risks. I think I was born that way,” said Ida.
Moreover, this is not new for Ida. She celebrated her 80th by ziplining. She had always dreamt of going skydiving and was looking forward to the adventure. “Someone asked me what I was going to do next, and without even thinking about it, I said, ‘Oh, I’ll just go skydiving,'” she added. The members stepped up and made arrangements to make her dreams come true. They collected money and managed to send Shannon on a plane. With this, she was able to jump thousands of feet and make her dream a reality.
More on the unique adventure
Before the jump, Ida noted that it was initially going to be scary. However, she was looking forward to enjoying the new experience. “The first minute or two is going to be kind of scary because you have to wait for the parachute to open. But after that, I expected to be able to leap down on god’s earth and enjoy what god has created,” said Ida. Ida went aboard the plane and managed to finish the dive and make it back safely. After skydiving, she clicked pictures with her family and friends. “She’s like the real Wonder Woman. She’s strong and loves people. We are family. She is like the grandmother I wish I had,” said Daisy May. May is one of Ida’s friends. She is also a member of the same church as Ida.
