Mexico to rent out presidential jet for weddings and parties

Mexico will rent out its presidential jet for weddings and parties. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador made an announcement that he has given up attempting to sell the presidential jet after several failed deals. However, will instead rent it out for weddings and parties. López Obrador revealed that the government has been unable to sell the Boeing 787 plane, which he considers to be excessively opulent and refuses to use. Instead, the president announced that he will just hand over the plane to a military-led firm that will run the new Felipe Angeles airport in Mexico City. The plane will be available for in-flight parties.

“The rental fees will pay for its expenses and maintenance,” López Obrador said. “It will be open to the public if anyone wants it because they’re getting married … and they want to bring their friends and family … or coming of age parties, birthdays.”

The plane was bought for $200 million

López Obrador has been attempting to persuade firms and business executives to purchase the presidential jet since 2018. He takes commercial aircraft and has only traveled outside of the United States once.

López claims the jet is difficult to sell since it is extremely custom-built. He explained the government was still open to propositions for the plane. However, that appears uncertain after almost three and a half years. The plane costs $200 million. It was previously in use by Enrique Pea Nieto, the previous president of Mexico. Because it can only carry 80 people and contains a full presidential suite with a private bath, it is hard to sell. According to experts, converting it into a standard passenger plane would be too expensive.
