Meghan Markle alleges British Media refers to her kids by ‘N-word’
In a cover story for The Cut, Meghan Markle revealed that she was never eager to share photos of her children with the British media. While she was an active member of the British Royal Family, Markle was expected to release pictures of her children to the Royal Rota. The press pool is responsible for covering Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the royal family. “There’s literally a structure,” stated Markle. She reasoned that she was not keen as the press was referring to them by the ‘N-word,’ referring to her biracial heritage.
“Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my children before I can share it with the people that love my children? You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game,” she stated. She also claimed that both she and Harry had no control over the @KensingtonRoyal account on Instagram they were sharing with Prince William and Kate Middleton.
More on the incident
However, a month before Archie’s birth, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex launched @sussexroyal, their own Instagram handle. They broke their news and shared images that never made it to the Royal Rota. The handle was closed after they stepped back as members of the royal family as they were prohibited from using ‘royal’ in their branding. Megan Markle also added that she will not be returning to social media as a result of the constant bullying from trolls.
Additionally, weighing in on the toxicity of the tabloid culture, she shared how it was negatively impacting both families. She stated her husband, Harry blamed the media for ruining his relationship with Prince Charles, his father. “Harry said to me, ‘I lost my dad in this process’. It doesn’t have to be the same for them as it was for me, but that’s his decision,’” she said.
