Ho Van Lang or, the real-life Tarzan, is a 49-year-old who spent over 40 years of his life in the forest with his father and brother. He did not know women existed or what sex was. He spent his isolated life deep in the jungles of Tay Tra district in Vietnam’s Quang Ngai province.

Real-life Tarzan: The origin story

Lang’s father fled civilization with his sons after a US bombing killed his wife and two other children in 1972. They survived eating berries, honey, fruit and lived in shelters they built. The trio also made their tools, cooking utensils, and cutlery. However, they were ‘rescued’ and brought back to the civilization in 2013. Since then, they reside in a house near the jungle. They always escaped when they saw people from a distance. As Lang’s father had a profound phobia of returning as he did not believe that the Vietnam War was over.” said Alvaro Cerezo, the managing director of Docastaway, a firm that offers holidays to uninhabited areas across the world. More surprising still is that today, despite being able to distinguish between women and men, he still doesn’t know the essential difference between them. I can confirm that Lang has never had the minimum sexual desire and his reproductive instinct has never shown its head in any of its many facets.” he added.

Lang is described as an endearing and happy-to-go person. According to Cerezo, “His sense of humor is like that of a baby, copying facial gestures or reacting to hide and seek and this contributes to making Lang a very endearing person.”

Unfortunately, Lang does not understand basic social concepts. His father did not teach or familiarize his sons with the concept of social cues, sexuality, and behavior. “If I asked Lang to beat someone, he would do it severely. He doesn’t know the difference between good and bad. Lang is just a child. He doesn’t know anything,” added Cerezo.
