We all want a non-judgemental friend to do nothing with but you can’t find anyone around you? Well, the solution is Shoji Morimoto, a 38-year-old Japanese man known as “Rental-Do-Nothing-Man.” Morimoto offers a rental service in Tokyo where he rents himself to other people to do nothing.

“What I mean by doing nothing is, I eat and drink (with my clients), and I answer their simple questions with simple answers,” Morimoto clarified. There are many rental services in Japan where you can hire paid actors to play your friend or family member. Something that makes Morimoto different is his effort-free approach and his not being dedicated to being some particular character.
“I am the ‘Rental-Do-Nothing-Man’. I provide a service where I can be rented to do nothing. This ‘Do-Nothing-Man’ is me and I rent myself out. I go to places where I am asked to, and I do nothing there,” says Shoji Morimoto. Morimoto says ever since he launched his firm on Twitter in 2018, he has been employed 4000 times for his services. 25% of his client come back for more services.

For Morimoto, who lives in Kobunji with his wife and child, his life has entirely changed. ‘it’s like a dream he said. With Morimoto’s growing popularity there are several demands that he has to decline some of the requests such as clients who want to take him to Trinidad and Tobago or any sexual requests.
