Meet Audrey, the first daughter in 138 years
Carolyn and Andrew Clark, from the American town of Caledonia, in Michigan welcomed their daughter Audrey. Audrey was born on March 17, ending the family’s almost 14-decade-long hiatus of girls. As per Caledonia, a girl child was not born into the family since 1885. Andrew admitted her gender was a “huge surprise” to everyone. Additionally, the ‘first daughter’ is more special as she came after a tragic miscarriage in January 2021.
When Andrew shared his family’s struggle to conceive girls with Carolyn, she did not believe him, asserting that every pregnancy was 50-50. “I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s a 50-50 chance every time. What do you mean?’ He goes, ‘No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years’,” stated Carolyn speaking to Good Morning America. “I asked his parents to confirm that information and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, no, we haven’t had a girl in our direct line”. she added.
The Clarks celebrate Audrey’s birth
The St Patrick’s Day baby was a surprise to the family after a gender reveal last September. “We kept it a secret to ourselves as well. So I just assumed it was going to be blue in the center of the cookies and it’d be another boy in the lineage. I was shocked. I think I just stared at the center of that cookie like, it’s pink. So it was a good surprise for us,” stated Andrew.
“When we found out we were pregnant, we honestly didn’t care if we were having a boy or girl at that point. We just were thankful to be pregnant and just praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. We just were thankful to be pregnant and just praying for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby,” stated Carolyn. “We’re so happy that she’s finally here and once again, that she’s healthy and that everything went well with the delivery,” she added.
