Medical mystery: Man discovers 2 cm dice stuck in nose for two decades

Chronic Symptoms Lead to Shocking Medical Discovery in China

In a bizarre medical case that has captured public attention, a young man in China’s Shanxi province underwent a surprising medical procedure that revealed a two-centimeter dice had been nestled in his nasal cavity for approximately 20 years.

Xiaoma, a 23-year-old from Xian, initially sought medical help after experiencing persistent symptoms including chronic sneezing, congestion, and a constant runny nose. Despite attempting home treatments and traditional Chinese medicine, his condition remained unresolved.

Diagnostic breakthrough

At Xian Gaoxin Hospital, doctors first diagnosed Xiaoma with allergic rhinitis. However, a nasal endoscopy performed by otolaryngologist Yang Rong uncovered the extraordinary truth.

“During the nasal endoscopy, we discovered a foreign object – a white lump coated with secretions. Upon extraction, it turned out to be a two-cm dice,” Yang revealed.

A childhood mystery

Xiaoma believes the dice might have entered his nose when he was three or four years old, though he cannot definitively recall how it happened. The medical team noted that the dice was partially corroded and had become firmly attached to the surrounding nasal tissues.

Complex medical extraction

The removal procedure was intricate and potentially dangerous. Yang explained that the dice was located in the lower nasal passage and had caused damage to the nasal mucosa. Any surgical misstep could have risked the dice falling into Xiaoma’s airway, potentially causing suffocation.

Following the successful surgery, social media users expressed shock and curiosity about how a dice could remain undetected in a child’s nose for two decades.

The case underscores the importance of thorough medical examinations and the unexpected medical mysteries that can develop from childhood incidents.
