Young Girl’s Quick Thinking Leads to Rescue

An eight-year-old girl from Quzhou, Zhejiang province, China, has been praised for her resourcefulness after she used an ATM to seek help when she became lost. The incident occurred on July 30, as the girl was returning home from dance class and got separated from her grandfather. Without a phone and surrounded by unfamiliar faces, she found an innovative way to reconnect with her family.

ATM’s emergency button connects child to help

In her distress, the girl spotted a nearby ATM booth and decided to use it. She pressed the red emergency button, which connected her to the bank’s monitoring center. Zhou Dongying, an employee at Quzhou Rural Commercial Bank, responded through the intercom. Though the girl couldn’t recall any family phone numbers, Zhou promptly contacted local authorities.

Following Zhou’s call, officers from the Kaihua County Public Security Bureau arrived at the ATM location. The girl was safely reunited with her grandfather, who had been desperately searching for her. The girl’s clever use of the ATM’s emergency features garnered widespread admiration online. “This is the first time I’ve learned that an ATM can be used like this. Kudos to the smart little girl and the warm-hearted staff,” one user commented.
