Kate Winslet Opens Up About Testosterone Therapy to Boost Libido
In a revealing episode of the How to Fail podcast, celebrated actress Kate Winslet has opened up about a subject many women in their 40s and 50s grapple with but rarely discuss publicly: hormone therapy to enhance libido.
The hormonal hurdle
Speaking candidly during the podcast, Winslet shared that she underwent testosterone replacement therapy at the age of 48 to address a decline in her sex drive. “Sometimes women have a real dip in libido because there might be stuff going on with their thyroid,” Winslet explained in Friday’s episode. “There could also be stuff going on with your level of testosterone.”
The Oscar-winning actress delved into the often-overlooked role of testosterone in women’s health. “A lot of people don’t know this, but women have testosterone in their body,” Winslet said. “When it runs out, like eggs, it’s gone, and once it’s gone you have to replace it and that is something that can be done and you’ll feel sexy again.”
Winslet, who has been married to Edward Abel Smith since 2012, also discussed her journey through hormonal changes, reassuring listeners that these shifts are a natural part of aging and beyond individual control. “It’s not [your] fault,” she emphasized, adding that women’s bodies change in “weird” and “strange” ways as they age. She encouraged listeners to consider checking their hormone levels, noting that imbalances can significantly impact intimacy.
Embracing age with confidence
Despite the challenges, Winslet highlighted the positive aspects of growing older. She delivered a message of self-acceptance and confidence, stating that women become “juicier and sexier” with age. “More embedded in their truth of who they are, more powerful, more able to walk through the world and care less, and that is an empowering thing,” Winslet said. “I say to my friends all the time, ‘You look amazing, you look great.'”
As Kate Winslet’s candid revelations resonate with many, her openness about hormone therapy and aging offers a powerful reminder that the journey through midlife can be both challenging and empowering.
