Jeff Bezos’s long-term partner, Lauren Sánchez, intends to travel to space shortly. Sánchez told the Wall Street Journal that she plans to travel to space in early 2024. Notably, Blue Origin creator Jeff Bezos traveled to space with his brother Mark in July 2021.
Because she is a certified pilot and the founder of Black Ops Aviation, the 53-year-old award-winning TV journalist and helicopter pilot has some aviation talents herself. The latter is the first aerial filming enterprise owned and operated by a woman. The names of her fellow passengers will be released closer to the departure date.
“It’s going to be women who are making a difference in the world and who are impactful and have a message to send,” she said.
Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and Blue Origin, will not accompany her on the trip
Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon and Blue Origin, will not accompany her on the trip, according to Sánchez.
“As much as he wants to go on this flight, I’m going to have to hold him back, he’ll be cheering us all on from the sidelines,” she said. “I’ve wanted to be in the rocket from the jump, so [Bezos] is excited to make this happen with all of these women.”
Blue Origin has conducted six space flights to date, transporting passengers on short up-and-down rides to the edge of space.
In September, an unmanned Blue Origin New Shepard spacecraft malfunctioned, resulting in a catastrophic explosion. The Federal Aviation Administration has grounded all future Blue Origin launches until an inquiry is finished.
Bezos previously provided 40 awards as part of his Bezos Families Fund project in an effort to give away a significant portion of his wealth. He previously told CNN that he intends to donate the majority of his $124 billion fortune. He intends to devote the majority of his efforts to combating climate change and assisting those who can bring mankind together in the face of severe social and political conflicts.
Bezos and Sánchez also presented Dolly Parton with the Courage & Civility Award, which came with a $100 million donation for Parton’s charity endeavors.
