The Burj Khalifa in Dubai became the world’s tallest structure fourteen years ago, reaching a height of 828 meters. It broke numerous records and became well-known. The Burj began construction in 2004 and was officially inaugurated in 2010. The structure was intended to be the focal point of a big, diversified development in the heart of Dubai. This was part of a strategy to transition away from reliance on oil and toward a business, tourist, and luxury-oriented economy. However, rumors of a new building may surpass it, raising the question of whether the Burj Khalifa will no longer be the tallest.
According to Guinness World Records, a building now under development in Saudi Arabia will be taller than the Burj Khalifa when finished. Jeddah Tower, also known as Kingdom Tower, is expected to be more than 1,000 m (1 km; 3,281 ft) tall. The Jeddah Economic Company structure will include luxury homes, office space, serviced apartments, and luxury condominiums.
It’s also supposed to be home to the “world’s highest observatory,” however the only one we’re aware of at the time is the University of Tokyo Atacama Observatory, which is located at an altitude of 5,640 m (18,503 ft), according to GWR.
According to GWR, Jeddah Tower, which is expected to cost $1.23 billion, could dethrone the Burj Khalifa. After a five-year hiatus, development on this north Jeddah landmark, which is part of a $20 billion mega-project, will restart in 2023. While its completion date is unknown, its intended size and facilities represent a threat to the Burj Khalifa’s record reign.
