Five nuclear powers, notably Russia, Britain, China, the United States, and France, issued a unified declaration. The declaration is about the avoidance of nuclear weapons and nuclear war. The Kremlin noted in a statement released on Monday.

These five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council are working to prevent nuclear war and reduce strategic risks. They also aim to collaborate with all nations to build a secure environment.

The US, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France are the five nuclear-weapons states that the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) of 1968 recognizes. As a result, they are the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. They signed the pledge. The permanent members are popular as the P5 or the N5.

The statement says, “We affirm that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought. As nuclear use would have far-reaching consequences; we also affirm that nuclear weapons — for as long as they continue to exist — should serve defensive purposes, deter aggression, and prevent war.”

This comes at a time when bilateral relations between the US and Moscow have deteriorated to their lowest position since the end of the Cold War.

Not only that, but ties between the Washington And China have reached an all-time low.

The declaration, according to Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, might increase mutual trust. It would also “replace competition among major powers with coordination and cooperation.”

According to Xinhua, Zhaoxu also stated that China maintains a nuclear weapons policy of “no first use.”
