Ruth Hamilton told CBC News how she awoke to a noise. Then, noticed the large rock on the cushion next to her. “The next thing was just a huge explosion and debris all over my face,” Hamilton told the news website. “I jumped out of bed and turned on the lights. I didn’t know what else to do, so I called 911,” she added.

“The operator was asking me all kinds of questions and at that point, I rolled back one of the two pillows I’d been sleeping on and in between them there was the meteorite,” she said.

The charcoal grey-colored rock, according to the news website, was the size of a cantaloupe and had fallen from space. Then, crashing into Hamilton’s roof and landing inches from her bed.

“I was shaking like a leaf,” she told the news website. “You’re sound asleep, safe, you think, in your bed, and you can get taken out by a meteorite, apparently,” she said.

“It’s certainly a meteorite”

Hamilton, on the other hand, had no idea that the meteorite that crashed through a woman’s roof was a meteorite. According to the news source, it was only after the scientists studied the rock at The University of Western Ontario that they got to know that the rock was definitely from space.

“It’s certainly a meteorite,” Peter Brown, a professor at the university told the news website. “Everything about the story was consistent with a meteorite fall and the fact that this bright fireball had occurred right at the same time made it a pretty overwhelming case.”

According to the story, Hamilton will now send the meteorite to Brown and his colleagues. They will try to figure out what kind of meteorite it is.
