Health concerns and hospitalization
Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, 72, has been hospitalized after being diagnosed with double pneumonia and testing positive for COVID-19. His representatives confirmed that Weinstein, already suffering from multiple health conditions, has been transferred to Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan.
“Weinstein is being treated for numerous ongoing health issues, including diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, and fluid in his heart and lungs,” his representative stated. “Additionally, he tested positive for COVID-19 and contracted double pneumonia.”
Weinstein is currently awaiting a retrial in Manhattan on sex crime charges after his initial conviction was overturned on appeal in April. The retrial is tentatively scheduled for November. Prosecutors allege that Weinstein raped more women than previously prosecuted, though he denies all allegations of sexual misconduct.
Separate legal battles
Weinstein is also appealing a separate rape conviction in Los Angeles, where he was sentenced to 16 years in prison. His defense argues that he did not receive a fair trial and is seeking a retrial.
Weinstein’s hospitalization adds to the complexities of his ongoing legal battles, with his health conditions continuing to be a significant concern.
