Canadian billionaire Frank Stronach was arrested on Friday on charges of rape and sexual assault, according to police reports. The 91-year-old businessman was taken into custody in the upscale Toronto suburb of Aurora. An official statement from the Peel Regional Police indicated that the alleged sexual assaults occurred from the 1980s to 2023.
“Frank Stronach was arrested and charged with five criminal offenses, including rape, indecent assault on a female, sexual assaults, and forcible confinement,” the police announced.
Authorities have also urged the public to provide any relevant information they might have.
Stronach released with conditions, court appearance scheduled
Stronach, founder of Magna International, a major Canadian auto parts manufacturer, has been released under certain conditions and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a future date, the police stated.
His lawyer has asserted that Stronach “categorically denies” all allegations.
“He looks forward to the opportunity to fully respond to the charges and to maintain his legacy as a philanthropist and as an icon of the Canadian business community,” Brian Greenspan, Stronach’s lawyer, said in a statement to Reuters.
Magna International stated it was unaware of the investigation or the allegations, apart from what has been reported in the media.
“Stronach has had no affiliation with Magna since relinquishing control in 2010,” the company told Reuters.
