Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, and Grimes, the musician, had their second child, a baby girl. Her name is Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, though her parents probably call her Y.
In an interview with Vanity Fair published Thursday, the 33-year-old Grimes disclosed the existence of the child. She was born in December.
But it appears she did so by accident. During the interview at Grimes’ home in Texas, the magazine reporter stated he heard what sounded like a baby wailing upstairs. Although Grimes grimaced and played evasively, she ultimately revealed that, sure, she was a parent again.
Elon Musk and Grimes opted to hire a surrogate this time because they were afraid she would have difficulties, as Grimes said she had during her first pregnancy.
The birth of their first child, a boy born in May 2020, was a popular subject in the media. It was particularly because of the name they chose: X Æ A-12, or simply X.
Last November, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and the world’s richest man, declared that he was “semi-separate” from the singer.
“I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid,” Grimes told Vanity Fair.
Musk and the eccentric artist, whose real name is Claire Boucher, reside in separate houses. But they are “best friends,” according to Boucher.
“We see each other all the time… We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it,” she said.
Grimes revealed that she and Musk want to have more children: She stated, “We’ve always wanted at least three or four.”
The name Exa Dark Sideræl, Grimes explained, includes numerous references to space and technology: she stated Exa refers to supercomputing; Sideræl, a more “elven” spelling of sidereal — this word means involving distant stars — and Dark, for “the unknown.”
“Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe,” Grimes said. She also added that she hasn’t ruled out the possibility that her daughter would change her name in the future.
Grimes has expressed her desire to keep her daughter out of the public eye.
She told Vanity Fair, “The best situation here is me training the girl and him training the boy.”
Musk has indicated that his main house is now in southern Texas. It is at SpaceX’s rocket manufacturing and launch location, after recently selling all of his Los Angeles real estate.
During a virtual presentation on the space company’s new rocket in November, the blond-headed X was seen sitting in his father’s lap.
Musk, 50, has had three divorces and has eight children, one of whom died in ten weeks.
