In one of the most expensive divorce settlements in British history. A British judiciary has ordered the leader of Dubai to pay his ex-wife and their children nearly 550 million pounds ($730 million). A High Court judge ruled that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum must pay 251.5 million pounds to his sixth wife, Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, in the United Kingdom. As well as make ongoing expenditures for their children.
The total amount obtained by the children could be more or less 290 million pounds. Depending on aspects such as how long they reside and whether or not they harmonize with their father. The divorce settlement includes 11 million pounds per year. It is for Princess Haya and the children’s security costs while they are minors. The November verdict was made public on Tuesday. Judge Philip Moor acknowledged that the family required “watertight security,” and that “absolutely uniquely,” the main threat to them came from Sheikh Mohammed, rather than from outside sources.
The settlement includes a 5.1 million pound holiday budget
Ms Haya, 47, fled to the United Kingdom in 2019 to seek custody of her two children through British courts. The princess, the late King Hussein of Jordan’s daughter, said she was “terrified” of her husband. He is accused of ordering the forced return of two of his daughters to the Gulf emirate. The lengthy battle in Britain’s family courts has revealed personal and financial details about the powerful but media-averse Gulf royals, who are among the world’s wealthiest people. Sheikh Mohammed, 72, is the vice president and prime minister of the UAE of which Dubai is a part, and a major horse breeder. He is on good terms with Queen Elizabeth II as the founder of the successful Godolphin horse-racing stable.
Princess Haya paid 6.7 million pounds to four of her security guards
Princess Haya testified in court that she paid 6.7 million pounds to four of her security guards. Who blackmailed her over her affair with a bodyguard. Selling jewellery and taking money from her daughter’s bank account to obtain the funds. Sheikh Mohammed published a poem titled “You Lived; You Died” after learning of the affair, which Princess Haya mistook as a threat. In October, a separate British family court judge ruled that Sheikh Mohammed had authorised the hacking of Princess Haya’s phone during the course of the divorce battle.
However, according to Judge Andrew McFarlane, the sheikh gave his “express or implied authority” to hack the phones of the princess and her attorneys using Pegasus spyware produced by Israel’s NSO Group. Sheikh Mohammed certainly denied knowing anything about the hacking. The divorce settlement includes a 5.1 million pound holiday budget. An annual sum of just over 450,000 pounds for the children’s staff. And around 275,000 pounds for their animals, which include two ponies and a horse.
