What ‘The Simpsons’ think today, the world thinks tomorrow. The present Ukraine-Russia crisis appears to have been prophesied by the show in 1998.
The show had foreseen the return of the Soviet Union and the reemergence of the Cold War in one of its episodes.
A clip from the famous series is likewise circulating on social media, showing how the West tries to find a way to avoid an ‘all-out war’. The scene is from an episode of ‘Simpsons Tide,’ which aired in March 1998, when Boris Yeltsin was the Russian Federation’s President.
Homer Simpson joins the Navy and then gets into a shooting battle with a Russian submarine in this episode.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows the Russian ambassador to the United Nations stating that the Soviet Union had collapsed. However, it was all a ruse to deceive the US. The video also hilariously brings Lenin back to life, who bursts out from his glass coffin and declares, “We must crush capitalism.”
The footage was also extensively shared on Twitter, with many users pointing out that ‘The Simpsons’ were likewise the first to describe the present situation in Ukraine.
The Simpsons and its prophecies
President Vladimir Putin has declared a military operation in Ukraine.
He claimed that the attack was necessary to protect people in eastern Ukraine. It is a justification that the US had warned he would make to justify an invasion.
Also, this isn’t the first time “The Simpsons” has foreseen the future. The show’s prophecies have come true in the recent past; from the Astroworld stampede to Kamala Harris‘ swearing into the US office as Vice President to the US Capitol rioting.
