Coca-Cola is changing the recipe for its Zero sugar variant, formerly Coke Zero. The recipe, last changed in 1985, and the firm said the new recipe will ‘deliver an even more iconic Coke taste’. “New can. New formula. Introducing the new and improved Coke Zero Sugar. Now more delicious. #BestCokeEver” tweeted the soda giant. However, the Coke Zero fans are not as excited.
Coke Zero Sugar to soon taste like regular Coke?
Coca-Cola said that it wishes to “deliver an even more iconic Coke taste”. However, altering the drink formula has not always gone according to plan. Previously, in 1985, the firm changed the formula of Coca-Cola. The new coke received a lot of criticism and the original recipe was back and rebranded as the classic coke.
The new coke or Coke II, discontinued in 2002 due to heavy criticism and a drop in sales. The diet coke’s spinoff, Coke Zero, was introduced in 2004. Moreover, this ‘less sweet’ counterpart is their biggest hit in the last 22 years. It then evolved into Zero Sugar in 2017. This new drink has a different look and flavor profile.
The Coca-Cola ingredient list will be the same
The firm has now confirmed that the list of ingredients along with the nutritional information will be the same in Coca-Cola Zero Sugar. “Recognizing that tastes and preferences are always evolving, we’re focused on continuous improvement to give fans the best-tasting Coca-Cola they want – with zero sugar or calories – offered in the most iconic packaging and powered by some of our most creative, consumer-centric marketing yet,” stated Rafael Prandini, the spokesperson for the company.
“As the country reopens, we want to be a part of this beautiful, culturally relevant moment that’s naturally happening in New York City. The activation, grounded in the idea that the best moments are even better with a Coke. And, this is the best Coke ever,” stated Natalia Suarez. She is the senior brand manager for the company. The old drink will be available now. However, the new Zero Sugar edition will slowly phase in from July onwards. The drink will completely be in full circulation from September 2021 onwards.
