Files from the Obama administration in Biden’s office
US President Biden‘s attorneys on Monday admitted several classified files from the Obama administration were discovered in a private office. The files were discovered in November in the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, in Washington DC. President Biden was using the office as a part of the ties with the University of Pennsylvania. He was an honorary professor at the university from 2017 to 2019.
As per a CNN report, about a dozen files were discovered. However, their presence is unclear. “The White House is cooperating with the National Archives and the Department of Justice regarding the discovery of what appear to be Obama-Biden Administration records, including a small number of documents with classified markings,” stated Richard Sauber. Sauber is the special counsel to President Biden.
More on the discovered sensitive documents
As per official rules and the law, a federal official must return all classified records and official documents after their service ends. Reportedly, some “sensitive compartmented information” or SCI files were a part of the discovery. Biden was showered with questions on the matter at a summit in Mexico City. However, they were ignored.
“The documents were discovered when the President’s personal attorneys were packing files housed in a locked closet to prepare to vacate office space at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C. The President periodically used this space from mid-2017 until the start of the 2020 campaign. Moreover, on the day of this discovery, November 2, 2022, the White House Counsel’s Office notified the National Archives. The Archives took possession of the materials the following morning,” explained Sauber.
