Choco Taco, an all-time favorite summer treat for several generations will soon be discontinued. Klondike, the owner, and ice-cream maker is discontinuing the iconic poolside treat.
It is time to say goodbye to Choco taco
Klondike revealed it is discontinuing the iconic summertime treat after this summer. However, Klondike, owned by Uniliver will continue selling shakes, cones, and its signature Klondike bars across the US.
“Over the past 2 years, we have experienced an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio and have had to make very tough decisions to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide,” stated a representative.
“A necessary but unfortunate part of this process is that we sometimes must discontinue products, even a beloved item like Choco Taco,” added the email.
More on the iconic treat
Choco Taco is a waffle cone in the shape of a taco shell. Filled with fudge-swirled ice cream, it is dipped in peanuts and chocolate. While it may not be a common sight in most grocery stores, it is a mainstay in ice-cream trucks and community pools. Taco Bell was also selling the treat and brought it back in select locations for a limited period.
The dismissal of the iconic treat is sending several Twitter users to revisit childhood summers or a meltdown.
“Dear @Unilever – I’d like to buy the rights to your Choco Taco and keep it from melting away from future generations’ childhoods,” tweeted Alexis Ohanian. Ohanian is the co-founder of Reddit.
Several are hoping for a way to stop it from vanishing. However, it is unknown if it will be a distant memory or a novelty treat similar to McDonald’s McRib that made occasional appearances.
