Chilling last words of Arizona teen Rachel Hansen, who was killed by intruder, revealed

Tragic Attack

On June 4, 2022, 19-year-old Rachel Hansen was attacked while she was sleeping in her apartment in Gilbert, Arizona. Newly released 911 transcripts have unveiled the harrowing final moments of the teenager, who was fatally shot by an intruder.

The 911 call

“I’ve been shot,” a distressed Hansen told a dispatcher at the Gilbert Police Department. “Someone broke in and shot me.” The wounded teen’s urgent plea, “Please hurry,” was recorded, followed by, “Oh [redacted], I’m bleeding. I’m bleeding,” as reported by KTVK-TV News.

Desperate measures

Hansen’s killer remains at large. The transcript of her last call reveals the dispatcher’s desperate attempts to assist the victim. “Do you have any kind of clean cloth there that you can apply pressure to it? Is there anybody there with you?” the dispatcher asked. “Are you close to any kind of cloth or a shirt or a towel that you can use?”

“No,” Hansen replied.

“There’s nothing near you? Rachel, I need you to talk to me, OK?” urged the emergency operator.

“I can’t,” Hansen responded.

Response and aftermath

First responders initially struggled to pinpoint Hansen’s exact location, but they managed to reach her within five minutes. Tragically, Hansen was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Kim Hansen, Rachel’s mother, expressed the profound difficulty of moving on without her daughter. “It’s been extremely difficult to continue life, to do what we need to do every day, without Rachel in it and not having any answers,” she said. The family has since enlisted the help of a private investigator.

Search for justice

The Gilbert Police later released a blurred video of their response to Hansen’s call, but her family had hoped for the actual audio recordings. “We wanted to hear our daughter’s voice and her last words that she spoke, so we are disappointed it was a transcript only,” Kim Hansen lamented.

In an effort to capture the suspect, the watchdog group Silent Witness is offering a $7,000 reward.

The Hansen family continues to seek justice for Rachel. The release of the 911 transcript adds to the urgency of finding her killer, as the community rallies in support of the family’s quest for answers.
