Diana and Charles' wedding cake up for auction

At an auction, Diana and Charles’ wedding cake slice may fetch up to £500. It was delivered to Moyra Smith, a member of the Queen Mother’s Clarence House staff. She wrapped the topping in cling film to keep it safe.

“It appears to be in exactly the same good condition, but we advise against eating it,” said Chris Albury from Gloucestershire’s Dominic Winter Auctioneers.

On August 11th, it will be up for auction.

Mrs. Smith stored it in an old flowery cake pan and a handwritten label attached to the lid. It reads: “Handle with Care – Prince Charles & Princess Diane’s [sic] Wedding Cake,” which she signed and dated 27 July 1981.

A collector bought the cake in 2008. Then, it is now up for sale 40 years after Charles and Diana married. On July 29, 1981, the Prince of Wales married Lady Diana Spencer. Hence, she later became Diana, Princess of Wales, in St Paul’s Cathedral in London. After 11 years of marriage, the pair split up in 1992 and divorced in 1996.

The royal coat-of-arms are also visible in gold, red, blue, and silver on a big slice from one of the 23 official wedding cakes.

When it goes under the hammer, Mr. Albury expects Charles and Diana’s wedding cake slice to bring between £300 and £500. It will also be complete with an order of service, ceremonial details, and a royal wedding breakfast program.
