Last February, during the celebration marking her seven decades-long reigns, Queen Elizabeth II decreed that the Duchess of Cornwall should be called Queen Consort when Charles ascends the throne. The term is used for the wife of a reigning King. Her job is to support the king in any possible way. Charles, 73, and Camilla, 75, each has children from their previous marriages. Additionally, the royal succession is established for the next three generations.
“When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife, Camilla, the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service,” stated the Queen. Following the death of Princes Diana, Camilla was depicted as the most hated woman in Britain by the media. Diana had blamed her for breaking her marriage with Charles. They married later in 2005 and Camilla has since been recognized as a key member of the family. When the time came, she insisted to be called Princess Consort as a lesser title than what would have been Princess Diana’s.

For the last 17 years, as the wife of the Prince of Wales, Camilla has been taking up similar duties as the queen consort. She is a royal patron of several causes and charities and accompanies her husband on royal tours. Queen Mother Queen Elizabeth became queen consort after King Edward VII abdicated the throne in 1936. She aided in saving the British monarch as she steeled her nervous and unexpected King during the Second World War.
As per The Mail, Camilla will be crowned with the Queen’s mother’s coronation tiara. The crown features several diamonds including the infamous Koh-i-Noor with its murky colonial past. The crown was last seen in public resting on Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin.
