Investigation Launched After Shocking Discovery
Authorities in California have initiated a homicide investigation following the discovery of a toddler’s body at a recycling facility and her father’s death in a different city. The body of 3-year-old Ellie Chinaza Obi Lorenzo was found by San Jose police around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to KRON.
Father and daughter tragedy
Ellie was in the custody of her father, Jared Lorenzo, who was found dead on Friday in San Francisco. Ellie’s mother reported her missing around noon on the same day, as the family had a custody agreement stipulating that Ellie should have been returned to her mother on Friday afternoon.
Last known whereabouts
Police revealed that the last sighting of Ellie was at an apartment complex in Fremont, California. Fremont Police Chief Sean Washington expressed deep sorrow, stating, “Our department is saddened to learn Ellie has not survived. Our hearts are heavy for Ellie’s family, and we will continue to support them during this difficult time. I want to thank all the members of our department and allied agencies who worked tirelessly throughout the night to try to bring Ellie home safely. On behalf of our department and community, please keep everyone impacted by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.”
Ongoing investigation
Following the tragic discovery, San Jose police have launched a homicide investigation, a routine procedure for child deaths, as confirmed by a spokesman to the San Francisco Standard. Currently, no suspects have been identified in the deaths of either the father or the child, and the causes of their deaths remain undisclosed.
In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Ellie’s family, raising over $87,000 as of Monday. The page commemorates Ellie, stating, “We remember Ellie for her big smile, friendly and playful spirit, and a life full of so much love.”
