Internationally recognized name of the country Turkey changes to “Türkiye.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the new name “represents and expresses the culture, civilization, and values of the Turkish nation in the best way”.
However, the change is more than just a matter of phonetic pronunciation.
The name is being altered to improve the country’s image and make it more connected to its cultural origins in Turkish history.

Although the transformation is proceeding as planned, some language difficulties may prevent the total change of names. The letter ‘Ü,’ for example, is problematic because it is not part of the standard Latin alphabet.
